Brown County stands to lose a lot, if the current version of a mining bill passes, and FEMA finds the state in violation of its floodplain rules.
That ruling would eliminate flood insurance in the state, and disqualify the state for FEMA flood disaster aid.?
Brown County emergency management director Cullen Peltier says without flood insurance, a family's savings could run out fast, if they have water problems.
Brown County has the most flood insurance policies in the state, with 1,684, covering more than $254 million in property.?
Peliter says the county may have to change its land use policy for building in floodplains, if flood insurance goes away.
