Bioware Co-founder no longer incharge at Bioware Austin ? Video Games Update

Rumours suggest that Bioware?s Co-founder, Greg Zeschuk, has parted ways with the company after the demise of Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR).

Reports also suggest that Bioware Austin, the Texas based developer behind SWTOR, will soon be rebranded as EA Austin. This news comes as no surprise to gamers who were expecting harsh repercussions for the studio following the $500 million blunder that is SWTOR. It seems that the staff at Bioware Austin is under a lot of ?internal pressure? as rumours of Electronic Arts disbanding the studio arise.

Greg however has not been sacked and is still working for Electronic Arts (EA) but the CEO of Major League Gaming, Matt Bromberg has been appointed as the new head of Bioware Austin. Matt?s LinkedIn profile reveals that Greg is basically taking time out and is vacationing with his family in Edmonton.

?Greg is still with EA. He's now back in Canada, taking time off and thinking about new projects. No change with Ray Muzyka," stated Matt?s LinkedIn profile.

This news might cause many Bioware fans to worry as many studios tend to suffer when the lead developers leave. Fine examples of this can be found in Team Ninja and Infinity Ward. Team Ninja, the Japanese developer owned by Tecmo, horribly botched Ninja Gaiden 3 and gamers everywhere believe that this is because Tomonobu Itagaki, the former head of Team Ninja and the father of the Ninja Gaiden series, left the company, taking around forty employees with him, shortly before.

Infinity Ward, the famed developer of Call of Duty also suffered a similar fate when the two founders of the studio were sacked by Activision right after the successful release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Even though Modern Warfare 3 was a commercial success, gamers felt that the game felt too stale and generic when compared to the first two installments of the Modern Warfare series.

The question is that will the new head of Bioware Austin, Matt Bromberg, be able to turn the tables for the developer and save it from joining the list of famed studios that EA had first acquired and then killed off because they were not ?profitable?.

When asked for clarification, EA has responded that it does not comment on speculation.
