Warning about travel insurance

Just a quick warning about travel insurance.

I was checking my travel insurance documents tonight and realized on closer examination of the fine print that it was only covering me for two days!!

I called Allianz who I had insured with after booking my flight with Orbitz to check if I had read their fine print correctly. The woman confirmed according to them I was only covered for two days!! I explained that the only reason I took out the insurance was for medical cover in Australia while awaiting my TR 309 visa and that is why I had a one way ticket and there was the problem. Without a return date the system can't issue me insurance for the time of my stay, nor could they offer me any insurance for my stay at all. I suggested that I could give them a date of return but wouldn't be returning on the day and she said that would be a reason for not paying if anything happened. She did in the end refund my $166, though said she didn't have to since I took out the policy more than 10 days ago. Fortunately I found out before I went because I am sure they wouldn't have given me a refund if I had already traveled to Australia.
