China guarantee table tennis gold

China made sure of their first table tennis gold at the London Olympics when world champion Ding Ning and Li Xiaoxia both reached the women's singles final on Tuesday.

Their success also guaranteed China will maintain a 100 percent record in the event, having won every Olympic women's singles since table tennis first appeared in the Games at Seoul in 1988.

Top seed Ding ended the hopes of one of the sport's brightest stars, Ai Fukuhara of Japan, and then won a controversy-tinged semi-final against Singapore's Feng Tianwei 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-6.

On match point at 10-3, the encounter seemed to have been settled in Ding's favour, but after Feng hesitated, the Chinese left-hander acknowledged the ball had clipped the table on the way down on her side.

"The umpire said that I had won the point, but I said what happened to show I play fair -- to show I'm not so very bad," she said.

Ding won because she mixed close-to-the-table hitting and counter-hitting, with mid-court containment, and some spectacular long-distance looping and lobbing, which brought a thunderous response from the crowd.

China became certain of gold when Li won 11-5, 11-4, 11-13, 11-6, 11-7 against Kasumi Ishikawa, the fourth seed from Japan. She beat Chinese-born Dutch player Li Jiao in her earlier match on Tuesday.

The Chinese won every individual table tennis medal at Beijing 2008, underlining a dominance described as "devastating" by the sport's top administrator.

Countries are limited to two men's and women's singles players each at the London Olympics. Wednesday's final will be a rematch of last year's world championships final won by Ding, who is also the Asian title-holder.

After beating Fukuhara, Ding admitted she would disappointed if she did not win gold.

"I have prepared enough," she said. "I am quite satisfied with what I have done and I feel confident."

Michael Maze, the former European champion from Denmark who caused the biggest upset so far, narrowly failed to cause another in the men's quarter-finals.

Maze had beaten the third-seeded Jun Mizutani of Japan yesterday and led the eighth-seeded Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany by 8-6 in the final game before going down 11-8, 12-10, 1-11, 9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9.

The other seed-buster, Adrian Crisan, was also halted.

The Romanian had beaten the fourth-seeded Timo Boll, the former world number one from Germany, but was trampled 11-3, 11-4,11-4, 11-5 by the fifth-seeded Chuang Chih-Yuan of Taiwan.

"He is my best friend in table tennis and I knew I would lose to him," said Crisan. "I played very badly and found it hard to concentrate."

The agreement settles allegations the company deliberately inflated drug prices by as much as 25 percent from 2001 to 2009.

One of the largest drug wholesalers in the U.S. will pay $151 million to 29 states and the District of Columbia to settle a lawsuit alleging the company inflated prices of hundreds of prescription drugs.

The lawsuit alleges that San Francisco-based McKesson Corp. caused state Medicaid programs to overpay millions of dollars in reimbursements, according to an Associated Press report on KRQE.com.

The agreement settles allegations the company deliberately inflated drug prices by as much as 25 percent from 2001 to 2009.

McKesson representative Kris Fortner said the claims against the company are without merit, but ?given the inherent uncertainty of litigation, we determined that this settlement was in the best interest of our employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders.?

In addition to New Mexico, states covered in the settlement include Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. Couple to remarry almost 50 years after divorce

Roland Davis and Lena Henderson (Sharon Cantillon/Buffalo News)Roland Davis and Lena Henderson (Sharon Cantillon/Buffalo News)

Never doubt the power of second chances. A couple, Lena Henderson and Roland Davis of West Seneca, New York, who divorced in 1964, are remarrying almost 50 years later.

According to a story in the Buffalo News, the two married as teenagers in Chattanooga, Tenn., and had four children. But even after the pair divorced 20 years later, they stayed friendly and kept in touch.

Davis remarried and moved to Colorado. Their youngest daughter, Renita Chadwick, noted to the Buffalo News, "The way they would act to each other never indicated there was anything but a friendship between them. My mother never had a harsh or contrary word to say about my dad, and my dad never had anything but loving remarks to make about my mother."

When Davis' second wife died, Henderson and their oldest daughter worried about him being alone, and urged him to move back to New York. Davis decided he wanted to do more than move. He popped the question to his ex-wife over the phone. "'Will you marry me again?" He asked. She answered, "Well, well, yes."

The 85-year-olds will tie the knot for a second time on August 4. Davis told the newspaper, "I always thought it might happen. It was always in the back of my mind. We're just thankful that we could get back together."

Their second chance at romance is capturing the hearts of people around them. When the two showed up at City Hall to get their marriage license, they were met by cheering office workers.

The wedding will be filled with four generations of their family. The bride will wear blue. The groom will wear a tuxedo.

Davis told UPI, "You don't think people are going to get married at this age. We're just thankful we've lived this long and that we're still here. We have a lot to be thankful for."

NEW YORK (AP) ? An authorized biography of astronaut Sally Ride, written by longtime ABC correspondent Lynn Sherr, is scheduled for publication next year.

Simon & Schuster announced Tuesday that Sherr's book, currently untitled, will have the cooperation of Ride's family and of her partner of 27 years, Tam O'Shaughnessy. Ride, the first American woman to fly in space, died of cancer last week at age 61.

The book will offer an extensive look at the professional and personal life of Ride, whose relationship with O'Shaughnessy was not widely known until her death. According to Simon & Schuster, Sherr will have "exclusive access" to Ride's family, and also will speak with friends, colleagues and NASA officials. Sherr reported on the space shuttle program for ABC news in the 1980s and became friendly with Ride.

Yemen confirms Italian is detained by tribesmen

SANAA (Reuters) - An Italian embassy security officer who was kidnapped in Yemen on Sunday was seized by tribesmen and is being detained in the oil-producing province of Maarib, Yemen's Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

The abductors are demanding compensation for the arrest of one of their relatives and the return of land they say they own in the capital Sanaa, a tribal source told Reuters.

The incident highlights continuing instability in Yemen five months after former leader Ali Abdullah Saleh was formally replaced by his deputy under a plan designed to forestall a slide into lawlessness.

Tribesmen often bomb oil and gas pipelines and kidnap foreigners as a way to press demands on authorities. The kidnapees usually are freed unharmed.

On Sunday, disgruntled tribesmen also stormed the Interior Ministry in the capital Sanaa in a protest over jobs.

Yemen's wealthier Gulf Arab neighbors and the United States are concerned the turmoil is being exploited by al Qaeda-linked Islamist fighters who already have a foothold in the impoverished state.

The Saudi deputy consul in Aden, Abdallah al-Khalidi, was kidnapped in March by al Qaeda-linked militants who demanded the release of women detainees from Saudi prisons.

Dating Checklist: Questions to Ask Yourself Before Falling In Love ...

Good relationships start with good decisions, and evaluating your beliefs about relationships and love before you start a relationship is the most important thing you can do. You must be sure that your expectations are realistic in order to have a happy and functional long-term relationship, and I?m including a quick cheat-sheet below you can use to do a little self-exploration in the romance department. I pulled these questions from a checklist in my book, Overcome Relationship Repetition Syndrome, where I include three entire chapters to hands-on checklists and inventories about your love life. With each question, I also share my advice!

What are the three most important characteristics to look for in a partner?

Men and women have the hardest time with this issue, as they?re usually too focused on sex appeal and personality ?sparks,? and focusing too little on the factors that actually matter the most. Simply put, the most important characteristics are kindness, reliability, and emotional stability. If you?re lucky enough to be spend much of your life with someone who has those qualities, you are going to have years of happiness and peace ahead of you.

What is the primary purpose of a romantic relationship?

It took many years of studying psychology and working with clients to get to the bottom of this one. When we?re young, we believe that the purpose of a romantic relationship is to provide you with an ultimate family: first a partner, then kids. But the purpose of a romantic relationship isn?t about procreation, necessarily. Actually, the purpose of a romantic union is to provide support and bring out the best in each other, so that each individual has the nourishment and strength to go out in the world and reach the life goals that each individual has. Meanwhile, in bad relationships, the relationships actually drain both partners and hold them back from what they could otherwise be doing to advance themselves and to keep evolving as individuals.

What is the main difference between a good relationship and a bad relationship?

Good relationships nourish, and bad relationships distract and harm. Good relationships, at root, allow each partner to feel accepted, while bad relationships often involve?trying to change your partner.?In bad relationships, men and women spend much of their time feeling frustrated, sad, angry, or resentful.

How do you know when it?s time to end a relationship?

It?s time for a relationship to come to an end when your main emotional needs are not getting met, and haven?t been getting met for a while. To be fair and responsible, an unhappy partner must be sure that the problem behavior has become a true pattern, rather than an isolated event. Once you?ve noticed that it?s a bona fide pattern, talk to your partner and be specific about the behaviors that you need to change. Next, give your partner some time to change, and this may take some time ?a matter of months. You need to decide the time frame that is acceptable to you, and then wait. At the end of that time period, you?ll have your answer, and that answer should determine whether it?s time to stay or go. If you have kids, it gets more complicated, but remember that kids can sense when their parents are unhappy together, and that?s not a great model to expose them to as the kids?grow up.

How sexually attracted should a person feel toward a prospective partner at the beginning of a relationship?

If I could jump through the computer screen for emphasis, I would do it to underscore the importance of this issue. Oh, this one drives me nuts! I spend a lot of time working with clients who believe that they need to feel that excited ?spark? when they first meet someone, or?otherwise they know in their bones that they?d never want to be in a relationship with the new person. Quite honestly, here?s my response: No, no, no. In fact, if you?re someone who has a history of feeling unhappy or unfulfilled in your relationships, you need to walk away when you meet someone witi whom?you feel a serious spark. In such cases, the spark signifies that there is a part of you that is afraid that you couldn?t ?get? him or her to be with you, which triggers excitement and the attempts to try to prove to yourself that you?re good enough to get him or her to be with you. Instead of searching for sparks, be on the lookout for someone who has the same characteristics you look for in friends. In other words, you should feel the same intensity of spark with a new friend that you feel with a new romantic interest!

Ultimately, asking yourself these five questions can make an enormous difference in your future relationships. I go into greater detail on these issues in my book, Overcome Relationship Repetition Syndrome, but these questions provide a great starting point. Relationships aren?t easy, but they?re easier if you make sure that the person you get involved with is someone who?s truly compatible with you from the very beginning.

Use Conflict Or Be Used By It

Many organizations avoid conflict because of emotional fear of confrontation. Avoiding conflict is simply a passive way of not managing people and processes effectively. People who need to be confronted use the avodiance of conflict to gain more power and influence within an organization and they do it by circumventing the issues which need confrontation.

Conflict, while often avoided, is not necessarily bad. In fact, conflict can be good for organizations because it encourages open-mindedness and helps avoid the tendency toward accepting everything that management says as fact.

Research demonstrates that ?organizations with constructive conflicts are more creative, productive and innovative?qualities every organization needs in today?s competitive ?environment. Harvard researchers, for example, found that executives who engaged in productive disputes generated more innovation and productivity than those with low levels of conflict.

In business, conflict that is avoided eats away at the connections that enable businesses to prosper.

Conflict is a natural part of relationships and human communication and shouldn?t be viewed as inherently negative or unhealthy.? What matters is how one manages conflict with others.

Conflict is a natural process of communication and facilitates the sharing of divergent viewpoints.? The process of gaining multiple perspectives on any issue is critical to identifying problems, designing improvements, and producing optimal solutions.? Ironically, conflict is a natural part of cooperation as teams will always have to manage conflict to get the best results.? Without conflict, you have groupthink, you discourage innovation, and you discourage learning, none of which are ideal for a productive work environment.

Leaders see conflict as a healthy, natural, and even necessary process to evolve, improve, and achieve.? Although conflict itself should be viewed as a healthy part of improvement, growth, and team development, peoples? personalities and conflict management skills are typically the differentiating factor between positive and negative experiences with conflict. There are five good things about conflict:

  1. Conflict Encourages New Thinking
  2. Conflict Raises Questions
  3. Conflict Builds Relationships
  4. Conflict Opens Minds
  5. Conflicts Beats Stagnation

Organizations that avoid conflict avoid change. Avoiding change is futile and can lead to the demise of even successful organizations. Companies that encourage staff to approach conflict in positive and productive ways, can beat the stagnation that opens the doors to competitors and challenges the ability to continue to provide customers with new and innovation solutions to meet their needs.

In today?s fast paced business environment unless you internally embrace conflict you?ll likely be surprised when you find yourself externally in the middle of it with no plan to get out of it. Sometimes conflict can be painful to those who get used by it and valuable to those who use it effectively.?

(AP) ? Fred Willard's improv series is a wipeout with ABC.

The network is pulling the last two original episodes of "Trust Us With Your Life," a move that comes two weeks after Willard's lewd conduct arrest at an adult movie theater.

Reruns of ABC's "Wipeout" will replace the Tuesday show hosted by Willard. The 72-year-old actor already had lost his job as narrator of a new PBS series, "Market Warriors."

In an appearance last week on Jimmy Fallon's late-night show, Willard said he was embarrassed by his July 18 arrest but insisted he had done nothing wrong.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's office determined that Willard's case was eligible for a diversion program that will keep him from being formally charged with lewd conduct if he completes the required courses.

Syrian envoy to London defects amid Aleppo fight

LONDON (AP) ? Syria's top diplomat in London said he could no longer represent the regime and defected Monday, as civilians fled the commercial hub of Aleppo in droves amid 10 days of fierce battles between rebels and government forces.

Britain's Foreign Office said that Khaled al-Ayoubi, the charge d'affaires, told officials that he wasn't willing to represent the regime any longer, the latest high-profile defection of a diplomat from Syria over the bloody crackdown on the opposition since March 2011.

Fighting is heating up in Aleppo, Syria's largest city with 3 million people. The U.N. said 200,000 Syrians have left over the past 10 days as the government trains its mortars, tank and helicopter gunships on the neighborhoods seized by the rebels.

"I am extremely concerned by the impact of shelling and use of tanks and other heavy weapons on people in Aleppo," Valerie Amos, the top U.N. official for humanitarian affairs, said in a statement late Sunday. "Many people have sought temporary shelter in schools and other public buildings in safer areas," she added. "They urgently need food, mattresses and blankets, hygiene supplies and drinking water."

Amos said U.N. agencies and the Syrian Red Crescent are working together on supplying those affected by the fighting with blankets and humanitarian supplies, but many remain out of their reach because of the violence.

"It is not known how many people remain trapped in places where fighting continues today," she warned. Aleppo is Syria's largest city and commercial hub with about 3 million inhabitants.

Aleppo is some 50 kilometers (30 miles) away from the Turkish border and some of those fleeing the city are headed for Turkey, where tens of thousands of Syrians have already found refuge during the 17-month uprising against authoritarian President Bashar Assad's rule.

Turkey is deploying more troops to the border, sending tanks, armored combat vehicles, more missile launchers and infantry troops, the state-run Anadolu agency reported.

Greece has responded by quadrupling the number of guards on its borders with Turkey out of fear of a potential influx of Syrian refugees.

Those fleeing Aleppo have described to The Associated Press incessant shelling, shortages of food and gasoline and soaring black market prices for everyday staples. In online videos they can be seen scurrying through streets against a backdrop of gunfire and climbing onto any form of transportation available to escape, including trucks, cars and even heavily laden motorcycles.

"Dozens of families are packing their belongings and leaving in cars and trucks," said an activist in a village near Aleppo, who declined to give his name for security reasons. "They are only taking light possessions that they can carry, like a few clothes, some valuables and that's it."

"I saw cars with eight, nine people packed in them fleeing the bombing," he added. He said rebels had seized a nearby checkpoint early in the morning and captured several tanks. The regime responded by shelling the rural area just northwest of the city. "Entire families are leaving."

Videos of the attack on the checkpoint posted Monday in the Internet show fierce exchanges of fire in the early morning and then later, victorious rebels hauling out boxes of ammunition and taking heavy machine guns for the fight in Aleppo.

The activist said refugees have fled to nearby villages where they stay with relatives or find shelter in local schools. Some however, are making the trip to the Turkish border.

Syrian state media had reported the army had "purged" Aleppo's southwestern neighborhood of Salaheddine and inflicted "great losses" upon the rebels in one of the first districts they took control of in their bid to seize the city.

Activists, however, disputed these claims and just described another day of fierce shelling of certain areas, backed up by the occasional foray on the ground. The assault has knocked down power lines and the neighborhood has been without electricity since the morning.

Gen. Babacar Gaye, the head of the United Nations Observer Mission in Syria expressed concerned over the ongoing violence in Aleppo, noting that "helicopters, tanks and artillery are being used."

Gaye visited the town of Rastan, just outside the city of Homs in central Syria, which has witnessed heavy fighting. Footage from his trip showed a devastated town with burnt out tanks by the side of the road and many destroyed buildings.

"We will be monitoring the level of violence and the use of heavy weapons in Syria. We will also be assessing if there is readiness and, if possible, progress for local confidence-building measures and national dialogue," said Gaye, whose mission is to monitor a cease-fire that has never been observed by either side.

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said late Sunday that the use of heavy weapons, particularly helicopters, is just another nail in President Bashar Assad's coffin. He spoke during a stopover in Tunisia as he kicked off a Mideast tour expected to focus heavily on the unfolding crisis in Syria.

Al-Ayoubi, the Syrian diplomat in London, is the fourth high ranking envoy to defect. He was preceded by the charge d'affaires in Cyprus, her husband, a diplomat in the UAE, and by the ambassador to Iraq.

A Foreign Office spokesman said al-Ayoubi was staying in a safe location in the United Kingdom and was in contact with British officials. His departure leaves five staff at the embassy and there has been no indication that they would be leaving their posts as well.

Turkey also reported that the deputy head of security for Syria's Latakia region, a regime stronghold, had defected as well.

The brigadier general was among a group of 12 Syrian officers who crossed into Turkey late Sunday, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters. His defection raised to 28 the number of generals who have left for Turkey since the start of the 17-month-old uprising.

Syria's army remains mostly intact, however, and still vastly outguns the rebel forces, who are armed for the most part with assault rifles and machine guns and don't have the heavy weapons necessary to effectively oppose tanks and helicopter gunships.

Australia's Westfield plans $4.7 bln British expansion

Australian shopping centre giant Westfield is to spend an extra 3.0 billion pounds ($4.71 billion) expanding in Britain, a report said on Monday, as it banks on London's resilience to an economic downturn.

Steven Lowy, the group's co-chief executive, told The Australian newspaper the investment was set to be directed towards upgrading the Broadway centre in Bradford and expanding its Westfield London centre in Shepherds Bush.

Westfield, one of the world's biggest shopping centre operators, could also redevelop a shopping centre south of London, it said.

"They are big numbers, headline numbers, but we have already invested almost 4.0 billion pounds sterling in two major shopping centres in London over the past few years," Lowy told the newspaper.

"We have plans for further investment in those assets and for other expansion."

Lowy said Westfield would continue to sell off lower-quality assets in favour of upmarket projects, such as the sprawling Westfield London, which opened in 2008.

"While the UK is still in recession and has been deeply impacted by the global financial crisis in Europe, London in particular has been shown to be a very resilient city, as has Paris (and) the major cities in Germany," he said.

"We believe in London for the long term."

Westfield has investment interests in 111 shopping malls in Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Brazil and Britain where it also has Westfield Stratford next to London's Olympic park.

Westfield posted a full-year net profit of Aus$1.53 billion (US$1.60 billion) in February, a 37.6 percent increase on the previous year.

(AP) ? Romania's unpopular president was fighting for his political life on Sunday as Romanians voted on whether to impeach him, part of a political battle that has raised questions about the rule of law in the fledgling European Union member.

Traian Basescu's rivals in the government are seeking to impeach him for the second time in five years. They claim the 60-year-old populist violated the constitution by meddling in government business, coddling cronies and using the secret services against enemies.

Basescu, a former ship captain whose popularity has plummeted over economic challenges, says the impeachment process is a political vendetta carried out by opponents and has urged his supporters to boycott the vote ? a tactic that may help him survive thanks to a rule requiring turnout to be more than half of the total electorate.

The political turmoil has dented Romania's credibility, with the U.S. and EU expressing doubts about the left-leaning government's respect for the independence of the judiciary. Critics accuse Prime Minister Victor Ponta, himself the subject of a plagiarism scandal, of orchestrating the move as part of a power grab.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. (0400 GMT) and will close at 11 p.m. (2000 GMT) with 18 million Romanians eligible to vote. Most are expected to vote to impeach Basescu, but it is uncertain whether the government can muster the necessary turnout.

Basescu, who has been president since 2004, saw his approval numbers drop after government introduced austerity measures in 2010 to meet demands by the International Monetary Fund in exchange for a multibillion euro (dollar) loan. The government cut public wages by one-fourth and raised sales tax to 24 percent, one of the highest in the EU.

Ponta says that Basescu's confrontational style of governing and interfering in the justice system and government business are evidence that he is unfit for the job. He says that charges that he plagiarized his 2004 doctoral thesis are orchestrated by Basescu's camp.

The foreign ministry has opened polling stations in embassies in the United States, Italy, Spain, France and elsewhere where an estimated 2 million Romanians are eligible to vote.

Dodgers sweep rival Giants

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:34 p.m. ET July 29, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw put together another dominant performance at AT&T Park.

His teammates are also getting comfortable at the Giants' waterfront ballpark - and now they are right back in the thick of the NL West race.

Kershaw pitched a five-hitter for his second shutout of the season, and Los Angeles beat San Francisco 4-0 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the division-leading Giants.

"We understand this is our year. There's no excuses," Kershaw said after his second shutout of the season. "Everybody's doing everything they can to put us in the right place to win. We just have to go out there and play now."

That is a far cry from the feeling in the Dodgers clubhouse a month ago when they were shut out in three consecutive games and let a three-game lead in the division slip away.

San Francisco (55-46) still leads Los Angeles (56-47) by one percentage point with nine games remaining between the teams this season.

"This is going to be a battle through the next couple of months," Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp said. "The last time we came here we were banged up. Now there's the healthy Dodgers out there and we're playing good."

Kershaw (8-6) struck out seven and walked one in his fifth career shutout, beating the Giants for the first time in three starts this season. He lost both previous outings despite allowing only four earned runs in 14 innings.

Kershaw, 5-2 with a 0.66 ERA in eight career starts at AT&T Park, also survived a scare in the eighth when Marco Scutaro hit a line drive that ricocheted off the pitcher's glove hand. Second baseman Mark Ellis retrieved the ball to make the out as Kershaw tossed his glove to the ground. He met briefly with a team trainer and manager Don Mattingly on the mound, then struck out Brandon Belt to end the inning.

"It puts us right back in the middle of things," Kershaw said. "My fastball wasn't great. I just didn't have that little extra on it. But (my) offspeed was good and I mixed it up. It was just kind of a combination of everything, really."

Ellis, Kemp, Andre Ethier and James Loney had two hits apiece, and Luis Cruz added two hits and drove in two runs for the Dodgers.

Blanked in a three-game series at San Francisco from June 25-27, Los Angeles outscored the Giants 19-3 in this series and didn't give up a run during the final 20 innings.

San Francisco, which has lost four straight, didn't get a runner past second and managed only three hits in the final seven innings. The Giants were swept at home by the Dodgers for the first time since June 28-30, 2010.

"That's what happens when you face one of the best pitchers in the game right now," San Francisco starter Ryan Vogelsong said. "If anything, this will make us a little mad and we can take it out on the Mets the next time in."

The slumping New York Mets will visit the Giants for a four-game series that begins on Monday.

Vogelsong (8-5), who had won both of his prior matchups against Kershaw this year, allowed two runs - one earned - and six hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. He lowered his ERA to a major league-leading 2.22.

Los Angeles went ahead with two runs in the fourth, following singles by Juan Rivera and Kemp. With runners at the corners and one out, newly acquired Hanley Ramirez grounded to third and beat second baseman Ryan Theriot's relay throw to avoid a double play as Rivera scored. After Scutaro dropped Loney's popup to third for an error, Cruz hit an RBI double.

Vogelsong struck out Kershaw with the bases loaded to end the sixth. The Dodgers added a pair of runs in the eighth against Jeremy Affeldt following a one-out double by Loney. Cruz and Mark Ellis hit RBI singles.

NOTES: Kershaw pitched a six-hit shutout against St. Louis on May 19. ... Loney is hitting .328 in July (21-for-64). ... The first seven hitters in the Dodgers' order all had at least one hit. No. 8 batter A.J. Ellis walked four times. ... Cruz has a career-best, 12-game hitting streak that is also the longest by a Dodgers player this season. ... LHP Madison Bumgarner goes for his team-leading 12th win for San Francisco against the Mets on Monday. ... Aaron Harang (7-5), knocked out in the fifth inning by Arizona on May 22, starts for the Dodgers in the opener of a three-game home set against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kemp's 4 hits help Dodgers trounce Giants

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:25 p.m. ET July 28, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Matt Kemp remembers the days he would come to San Francisco and draw little notice. He prefers the way it is now.

Kemp homered among his four hits and drove in four runs, Chad Billingsley took a two-hitter into the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Giants 10-0 on Saturday.

"It's cool," Kemp said of the taunts he gets from the Giants' fans. "I get a kick out of it. They used to not know who I was."

Hanley Ramirez had three RBIs in helping the Dodgers beat San Francisco for the second straight day to pull within a game of the NL West-leading Giants.

"He's like having another Matt Kemp," Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly said. "You get a guy who can fly and has power."

Kemp said he's enjoyed his new teammate.

"He has a pretty swing," Kemp said. "He's always been one of my favorite players and now we're on the same team. Wherever he bats, he's going to help us."

Billingsley (6-9) drove in a run for Los Angeles with a sacrifice fly. He gave up leadoff doubles to Buster Posey in the second and Angel Pagan in the fifth, the only baserunners he allowed through seven innings. He gave up two more hits and was lifted with one out in the eighth.

"It looks like he has gotten back on track," Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said. "He hit his spots. It was a well-pitched game."

Barry Zito (8-7) gave up four runs on seven hits over 5 1-3 innings. He walked one and struck out four.

The Dodgers got to Zito right away. Mark Ellis opened the game with a sharp single and, one out later, Kemp hit his 15th home run, a drive that sailed halfway up the left field bleachers.

"Kemp has been swinging the bat well," Zito said. "He took a good swing on a good pitch. It was right where I wanted it."

Billingsley's sacrifice fly in the fifth drove in the Dodgers' third run and Hairston's RBI double in the sixth ended Zito's day.

"The last time we were in here we were a different team," Billingsley said. "Hanley has been a good addition and Kemp hit the home run early and we just continued it."

The Dodgers tacked on three runs in the seventh on A.J. Ellis' leadoff home run and back-to-back doubles from Kemp and Ramirez. They added three more in the ninth on Kemp's fourth hit and Ramirez's two-run single.

"It's great to have the whole team together," Ellis said. "We feel like we can match up with anybody. When Chad is locked in like he was today, he's as good as anyone in the league."

Luis Cruz had two hits for the Dodgers, extending his hitting streak to 11.

Marco Scutaro and Brandon Crawford each singled with one out in the eighth, prompting Billingsley's exit. Javy Guerra came on to get the final five outs.

NOTES: Zito has a first-inning ERA of 6.30. ... Dodgers RHP Rubby De La Rosa will join LHP Ted Lilly at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga for a rehab assignment. ... Giants INF Pablo Sandoval (left hamstring strain) was placed on the DL retroactive to July 25 and INF Emmanuel Burriss was designated for assignment to make room for Scutaro and Aubrey Huff, who was activated from the DL. ... Dodgers' RHP Matt Guerrier will begin a rehab assignment, though he's not expected to pitch for the Dodgers again until September. ... LHP Clayton Kershaw (7-6, 3.14) pitches for the Dodgers in Sunday's series finale. His career ERA of 1.45 (minimum 50 innings) against the Giants is the lowest all-time against the team. ... RHP Ryan Vogelsong (8-4, 2.26) starts for the Giants. ... Billingsley recorded his first career sacrifice fly.

Safety is unlikely to improve without a transformational conversation ...

As the relevance of Leadership encroaches on the workplace safety discipline, so do supportive concepts and techniques such as transformational conversations.? There is little doubt that such concepts are applicable to improving safety management and worker safety, even if, to some extent, these concepts are old wisdom rebranded into modern lingo.? Safety conversations can, and should, be transformational but don?t think that this type of conversation is new or unique.

Transformational conversations have been integral elements of the language used by? OHS consultants, and small business people, (and?frauds)?all the time, mostly subconsciously.? By answer the phone or asking??how can I help?? you indicate that you are available to be supportive and helpful. It also throws the emphasis back on the customer/employer to?be more forthcoming with?information and reinforces that you are not providing/imposing solutions but helping the client to develop or refine the solutions themselves.

This is a crucial element of OHS law that the business community?still struggles to appreciate. Everyone wants to be told what to do, as this involves minimal thinking. But the days of prescriptive laws and regulations are gone and so the employer must be more actively engaged in safety decisions.? The persistence of this attitude can be seen within many of the statements made recently by Australian businesses in the OHS law harmonisation dialogue (I hesitate to describe it as a debate).

The principal OHS duty to establish and maintain a safe and health work environment remains with the employer, or PCBU so, it can be argued, unquestioningly accepting the advice of an OHS consultant is breaching these laws. The employer is supposed to be involved with the decision making, to be in consultation,?and not just handballing the OHS consultant?s recommendation to their operations manager for implementation.

When I assess hazards on site walks around factories, offices and?construction sites?I do not identify hazards for the client but ask the client whether they see any hazard. In this way, the client learns an alternate perspective of their own worksite.? Hopefully they also learn that the consultant or adviser is not there to do their job for them. The advice should be seen as a second opinion, not the first opinion. And certainly not the last. The ?last? is the client?s decision to control the hazard.

During sociological studies I was impressed by the book (I was too young in 1972 to have seen the TV programs) ?Ways of Seeing? by John Berger.? It is ?considered a seminal text for current studies of visual culture and art history? so is likley to have been missed by most safety professionals as most do not come from a Humanities background.? But this book, coupled with literary deconstruction and the analysis of novel narratives, convinced me that one?s perspective of something can be just as important as the something itself.? This new perspective on hazards can come from the application of transformational conversations.

One article about transformational conversations identified four ?unknowns?:

  1. ?We don?t know what solution we?re going to get here.?
  2. ?We don?t actually know what topic we?re talking about, what problem we?re trying to solve.?
  3. ?We don?t know who we will be at the end of the meeting.?
  4. ?We don?t know what kind of universe we will live in when we are done.?

These unknowns can be very threatening to the safety professional, and to a lesser extent, their clients but, I believe, are important stepping-stones on the pathway to safety innovation.

Transformational conversations are required in many social and occupational areas.? It is hard to imagine human resources and personnel management without this type of conversation, although it happens all the time and leads to many of the psychosocial hazards appearing in the modern workplace.? I would say that the successful rearing of children is impossible without transformational conversations.

This type of conversation should?become the default setting in any safety conversation in order to empower the client to reexamine their worksites and their system of work?so that they feel comfortable and confident in asking the questions that can lead to safer workplaces and safer workers.

Your leaders are learning this sort of stuff through their own personal development courses and by reading business magazines such as the Harvard Business Review.? By knowing what they know and what they are trying to apply to safety management, you will (finally?) understand what they are on about and, probably, increase the success of the conversational strategy.? And if your boss is not already on the transformational conservation pathway, you may just be able to move into a position of greater safety influence in your organisation or with your clients by applying this old ?new? technique.

7 Tips to Good Healthy Diet Plan Anyone Can Follow! - A Healthy Diet

Losing weight is not an easy task. You need motivation, goal, and a good healthy diet plan. So, here I will explain what you can do to lose weight. It is not that difficult as long as you are disciplined!

First Understand how the system works!

Many people are so eager to lose weight, they do not have to follow some logical steps when it comes to weight loss. The goal is to eat certain amount of calories, and burn the same amount, and a few extras. This is how weight loss works! Having said that food is your energy, you can not work without food, but again, the food is no problem, but rather what kind of food you eat. The food selection is important in the healthy eating plan.

Second Keep your food journal

Many people simply eat too much. Make a list of things you will eat tomorrow. Get an estimate of the calories and divide the food in 6 meals! Yes, you heard me correctly, you must be 6 meals per day and this type of diet is by far the good healthy diet plan to eat.

Third Eat six meals a day

Let me explain why six meals per day. First, it is easy to control the parts of the food. You must also have enough food to fill, but not fully satisfied. In addition, you eat more often to speed up metabolism and you will not be hungry.

4th Lean meats, vegetables, nuts, dairy products and fruits.

People think that a famine is the answer to their problem of weight loss. It is actually completely wrong! You need to eat meat, vegetables, nuts, dairy products and fruit to lose weight. You should also know that you are starving diets actually gain weight in the long run, because they slow down your metabolism!

5th Green tea and water

Two liquid ingredients that help weight loss is green tea and water. You should drink about 8 glasses of water per day green tea and at least help you burn about 50-60 calories per cup. Not bad for doing nothing except drink tea.

6th Have a healthy snack on hand

This is the most common reason why people eat junk food. Whenever you are hungry, you start taking the food that is not good for you! If you have a healthy snack on hand, there is a kind of duty. Otherwise, all the above five steps will not work.

7th Exercise!

Ok this is the most painful for most people. But it needs to be done. You really do not need to run a marathon to lose weight, but what you should do is to get 30 minutes exercise to lose inches and pounds. Park your car a little further from the front door. Go up the stairs (great for your thighs) to go for a walk on your lunch break! Take a break and enjoy the natural min for 30 min. and get needed exercise. Exercise must be installed with good and healthy diet plan to lose weight!

Lean Transformation: The Demise of IT Business Analysts

IT departments typically staff themselves with a group of folks known as business analysts.?

These folks have the responsibility of talking to folks that work in the business and translating their needs into a format that more technical folks can understand, because for some reason or other, most managers think that developers are unable to speak the same English that everyone else does.

IT is consistently cursed with getting the requirements wrong. Users, it seems, are horrible at actually reading the requirements documents they are given, worse they always seem to hate the great software that IT gives them. IT management typically has two solutions to the problem

1 - put a change management system in place that prevents those customers from actually changing their minds

2 - invest in better capability in requirements facilitation and documentation

None of these assumption address the underlying cause of churn in IT requirements, which is that today's customer economy has created an environment where the benefit ?of many IT requirements are based entirely on assumptions. When these assumptions turn out to be wrong (and they often do) the business has no choice but to change direction, and fast.

Faced with this challenge IT either jumps into heroics mode or shuts down into change request mode, or worse some weird mixture of both.

No amount of requirements gathering expertise can fix this problem.?

For the IT Analyst function to be relevant in today's world requires a different set of skills. What is required is an IT Analyst who is well versed in how to reverse engineer a business plan and associated IT solution into a set of testable assumptions that can be implemented, and validated by order of highest risk.?

In short Business Analysts need to become Business Technology Innovation Experts if they want to more than mere order takers.

Man hides cash in oven; cash gets baked by accident

Australia man's cash is baked in his oven. (NineMSN)

One man probably has learned a costly lesson about where he hides his cash.

The unidentified father from Sydney, Australia, sold his car last weekend. The $15,000 (approximately $15,652 in U.S. dollars) in proceeds was earmarked for his mortgage payment and other bills, according to Australian media. Opting not to squirrel away the loot in a mattress or bury it in his backyard, he decided to hide it his oven, which rarely gets used.

Bad move: Turns out, his wife decided to use the oven that day, preheating it for chicken nuggets for their two children and, yes, cooked the cash.

"It was everything I had," he told the news station. "I've got nothing to my name. That money was supposed to go towards my mortgage."

His wife was equally distraught and, reportedly, could not stop crying when telling her husband after she discovered what happened: The cash was baked into a colorful burnt mess.

The man reached out to his lender and the Reserve Bank of Australia for help.

The Reserve Bank advises people to take damaged currency to a bank. According to the Reserve Bank policy, "if several pieces of the same banknote are presented, the Reserve Bank's policy is for each piece to be worth a share of the value in proportion to its size... The combined value paid should be the face value of the original banknote."
